Pernod Ricard USA Wins 40 Medals At The 2006 San Francisco World Spirits Competition

Jameson® 12 Year Old Named "Top Irish Whiskey. Chivas Regal®, The Glenlivet® and Martell™ Strike It Rich With Double Gold

White Plains, N.Y. (April 14, 2006) – Pernod Ricard USA, a leading producer, importer and marketer of prized spirits and wine brands in the United States, is proud to announce that its expanded portfolio won an impressive 40 medals in the prestigious 2006 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, nearly double the medals (23) received in 2005.

Jameson 12 Year Old won the honor of "Top Irish Whiskey" while Chivas Regal 18-year-old Scotch Whisky, Royal Salute Scotch Whisky, The Glenlivet 18 Year Old Single Malt, Martell Cordon Bleu Cognac and Martell XO Cognac brought home Double Gold Medals.  In total, Pernod Ricard brands won 16 awards in the brown spirits category (up from 13 in 2005) and 15 awards in the white spirits category (up from three in 2005).  Nine additional medals in the liqueur and pre-mixed cocktail categories round out the total number won.

Held on March 18th and 19th at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in San Francisco, the 2006 San Francisco World Spirits Competition is the first comprehensive, international spirits judging to be held in the United States on an annual basis.  2006 saw 701 entries from 52 countries around the world. Judging of the entrants is based on blind taste tests and medals are awarded on taste alone.
