Wyndham Estate® Showcases Signature Shiraz Range of Unparalleled Variety and Depth
Purchase, N.Y., March 14, 2007 — Wyndham Estate, where Australian Shiraz began, announces the expansion of its U.S. Shiraz offerings. Joining the benchmark BIN 555 Shiraz (suggested retail price: $9.99) are the BIN 505 Shiraz Rosé (suggested retail price: $9.99), BIN 555 Sparkling Shiraz (suggested retail price: $17.99), Show Reserve Shiraz (suggested retail price: $17.99) and Black Cluster Shiraz (suggested retail price: $35.99). In the words of Andrew Miller, Wyndham Estate Chief Winemaker, “After introducing the world to Australian Shiraz so many years ago, we now have the pleasure of debuting our Sparkling Shiraz and Shiraz Rosé, as well as highlighting two new vintages from our premium Shiraz ranges.”
The history of Australian Shiraz is inseparable from the history of Wyndham Estate. In 1835, George Wyndham, founder of Wyndham Estates, planted Shiraz vines in the Hunter Valley, thereby introducing the varietal that would become the signature of the Australian wine industry. Renowned worldwide for its unique and generous flavor, Shiraz remains the focus at Wyndham Estate, where it has been produced for an unparalleled 172 years.
Each wine in the Wyndham Estate Shiraz portfolio embodies the brand’s winemaking philosophy, which calls for an emphasis on soft, generous, flavorful wines. Accordingly, the wines offer rich color, intense fruit flavors, complexity, balance and generous palate weight. The overall strength of the portfolio is the sum of each Shiraz’s singular contribution, as well as a testament to the rewarding characteristics of authentic Australian Shiraz.
The flagship Shiraz in the Wyndham Estate wine portfolio, both consumers and critics acclaim the BIN 555 Shiraz. In addition to being the most popular Shiraz in Australia, the BIN 555 Shiraz has received over 95 accolades at premiere international wine competitions. Sourced from South Eastern Australia’s finest wine growing regions, the wine is a prime example of the full, fruit-forward style for which Wyndham Estate is renowned.
BIN 505 Shiraz Rosé 2006
With the elegant and enlivening rosé style continuing to garner worldwide recognition, Wyndham Estate’s new BIN 505 Shiraz Rosé represents an innovative contribution to this emerging category. Blending the clean, fresh taste of a white and the structural body of a red, the BIN 505 Shiraz Rosé is a fruit-driven wine that captures the essence of Australian Shiraz in a refreshing rosé style.
BIN 555 Sparkling Shiraz
The new, non-vintage BIN 555 Sparkling Shiraz is a refreshing, effervescent delight that turns any occasion into a lighthearted celebration. Selected from parcels of full-flavored grapes in premium vineyards, the BIN 555 Sparkling Shiraz exhibits the signature flavor of the varietal while imparting an additional zest.
Show Reserve Shiraz 2004
The Show Reserve Shiraz represents the pinnacle of Wyndham Estate winemaking. The premium wine is multi-regional, sourced predominately from South Australia and Hunter Valley vineyards. The 2004 vintage benefited from optimal harvest conditions, as well as regular tasting and assessment by winemakers at all stages of production. Showing concentrated ripe plum and berry fruit complemented by hints of chocolate and eucalyptus, the Show Reserve Shiraz pairs flawlessly with beef, lamb, game meats and cheese.
Black Cluster Shiraz 2003
The ultra-premium Black Cluster Shiraz is a tribute to pioneering winemaker George Wyndham. Sourced exclusively from a venerable parcel in the Hunter Valley, the Black Cluster Shiraz derives its name from George Wyndham’s diary note, penned the day he began his first vintage at Wyndham Estate (then named Dalwood Estate) on February 9, 1835: “Began my vintage. Filled the pipe with the must of the Black Cluster.” A fitting tribute to the founder of Australian Shiraz, the Black Cluster Shiraz is an intense, complex wine featuring enormous depth of fruit and spice, seamlessly integrated with mocha oak.
Wyndham Estates has continued to play a dynamic role in Australian winemaking history ever since George Wyndham planted the first Shiraz seeds on Australian soil. Says Chief Winemaker Andrew Miller, “We began as the foremost producer of Australian Shiraz, and we have proudly maintained that position for more than 170 years. It is such an honor to be building upon Wyndham Estate’s longstanding reputation of excellence and innovation.”
