Jacob's Creek® Rolls Out Two New Reserve Wines
Jacob’s Creek Adds Reserve Pinot Noir and Reserve Merlot to its Reserve Portfolio
Purchase, N.Y., June 12, 2007 – Leading Australian winery, Jacob’s Creek, announces the nationwide release of two premium Reserve wines: Jacob’s Creek Reserve Pinot Noir and Jacob’s Creek Reserve Merlot (suggested retail for both wines: $12.99). Previously unavailable in the U.S. market, these wines join Jacob’s Creek’s celebrated Reserve range, which includes a Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Riesling and Shiraz.
“The Jacob’s Creek Reserve Pinot Noir and Jacob’s Creek Reserve Merlot are elegant and food-friendly, very true to the Jacob’s Creek style, and specifically intended for the U.S. wine market,” says Philip Laffer, Chief Winemaker at Jacob’s Creek.
To further herald this exciting introduction, the Jacob’s Creek Reserve range packaging has been updated and redesigned to highlight the wine’s exclusive “Reserve” status. Jacob’s Creek Reserve wines are of exceptionally high quality and carry an approachable $12.99 suggested retail price, achieving Jacob’s Creeks goal to unfailingly over-deliver in terms of quality.
Jacob’s Creek Reserve Pinot Noir aims to be the benchmark for super-premium Australian Pinot Noir, which is scarce in the U.S. market. Says Laffer, “Few Americans are aware of the reputation rapidly developing in Australia for homegrown, high-quality, cool-climate Pinot Noir. Like all things vinous from Australia, this wine contains lots of color, lots of flavor, lots of fruit, and lots of complexity. This is a Pinot worth searching for.”
Jacob’s Creek Reserve Pinot Noir is made using carbonic maceration to maintain the fresh berry fruit characteristics and its ferments are hand-plunged twice a day to extract color, flavor and soft tannins. The result is a well-integrated, fruit-driven wine with excellent structure and a lingering finish. Intense aromas of sweet cherries, fresh strawberries and hints of rhubarb are complemented by gentle oak tannins. It is an ideal companion for pork, chicken and fish entrées.
Jacob’s Creek Reserve Merlot is poised to revitalize a varietal to which many Americans have become accustomed. Laffer explains, “Merlot is relatively new to Australian winemakers, and in this case being last has been most beneficial.” He continues, “We have waited, watched, tasted and selected the best clones for Australia. We are prepared to surprise the U.S. market with the Jacob’s Creek Reserve Merlot, restoring faith in this classic Bordeaux variety.”
Jacob’s Creek Reserve Merlot is sourced from South Australia’s premium Padthaway, Barossa Valley and Coonawarra regions. This rich, juicy Merlot combines cherry, plum and blackberry flavors with hints of mint and spice. Impeccably balanced and with a soft, smooth finish, it pairs with a wide variety of dishes, from fine Italian cuisine to filet mignon.
Made with specially selected premium grapes from South Australia’s finest regions, Jacob’s Creek’s Reserve wines are balanced and versatile, pair well with food, and have great aging potential. Laffer says, “Jacob’s Creek has always been associated with fine dining. For years we have produced a style of wine that is particularly complementary to food. Jacob’s Creek Reserve Pinot Noir and Jacob’s Creek Reserve Merlot are both crafted to bring out the best in food, and because of their easy-going elegance, the pairings are exciting and endless.”
