Wyndham Estate - Where Australian Shiraz Began

WHITE PLAINS, NY (APRIL 26, 2005) -- The Wyndham Estate wine brand is being refreshed with new packaging and a new brand identity that celebrates its heritage as the site of the first commercial plantings of Shiraz in Australia. It is little known that Shiraz -- the grape that has become renowned, as the international calling card for the Australian wine industry -- was first planted commercially by George Wyndham.

In 1828 Wyndham Estate was established by George Wyndham, who planted the first commercial Shiraz vineyards at the historic Dalwood property in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales in 1835. To celebrate this important milestone in Australia's wine industry history, Wyndham Estate has developed contemporary new packaging for the range to ensure that Wyndham Estate remains as relevant to the consumer in the 21 st century as it was in the 19 th and 20 th centuries.

"Key research findings noted there was an opportunity to re-align Wyndham Estate's pioneering heritage with its image, placing a greater emphasis on its wine making philosophy which was developed by brand founder, George Wyndham," stated Jeanne Toro, Senior Group Director, Pernod Ricard, USA. "The challenge was to emphasize Wyndham Estate's documented heritage and refine an image that was both familiar to loyal customers yet modern enough to attract and encourage others to experience the wine."

Wyndham Estate wines have received over 1,000 international awards commencing with Silver and Bronze medals at the Paris International Exhibit of 1867 and the Gold for "Best Australian Wine" at Bordeaux in 1890. The flagship Wyndham Estate Bin 555 Shiraz accounts for 95 awards. This success is a testament to the winery's philosophy of producing wines with generous, full-bodied fruit flavors that represent authentic Australian Shiraz characteristics.

"It is exciting when you contemplate how established and instrumental to Australia's founding history Wyndham Estate has been. It is an honor to be upholding that ongoing reputation for excellence," said Brett McKinnon, chief winemaker, Wyndham Estate.

In the United States the marketing communications materials created by Alcone promotion of Darien, CT, include point of purchase materials that deliver Wyndham Estate's pioneering and heritage message through flow shelf talkers, brand and product information brochures, and bottle neckers. In addition, Wyndham Estate's story has been produced in a video accessible on the web at www.pernod-ricard-usa.com/news/wyndham/photos/index.html .

Wyndham Estate wines available in the U.S. are Bin 222 Chardonnay, Bin 333 Pinot Noir, Bin 444 Cabernet Sauvignon, Bin 555 Shiraz, Bin 777 Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc, Bin 888 Cabernet Merlot and Bin 999 Merlot.
