Slainte! Toast to Another Special St. Patrick's Day
Have some fun with the following cocktails to make an extraordinary green gathering
PURCHASE, N.Y., March 5, 2008 — In America, where there are more people of Irish descent than in Ireland itself, and around the world, it's time again for a spirited St. Patrick's Day celebration. As an alternative to toasting this year with green bagels and green beer, what better way to celebrate than with the world's number one Irish whiskey or a variety of green drinks! Often served neat, on the rocks, with cola or Ginger-Ale, Jameson® Irish Whiskey can also be highlighted in an array of delicious hot and cold drinks; and green libations can be easily made with Hiram Walker liqueurs. Give the following cocktails a stir and make any friend Irish for a day, any day of the year.
Jameson Hot Toddy
- 1-½ teaspoons honey
- ½ part fresh lemon juice
- Dash of ground cinnamon or nutmeg
- 2 parts Jameson® Irish Whisky
- 5 parts boiling water
- 1 cinnamon stick
- Dissolve the honey in the lemon juice with a spoon in a heavy-bottomed rocks glass. Add the ground cinnamon and the whiskey. Top with boiling water, add the cinnamon stick.
Jameson Irish Coffee
- 2 parts Jameson® Irish Whiskey
- 5 parts hot coffee
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- Heavy cream
- Pour the whiskey, coffee, and sugar into a stemmed, heated glass mug. Sir, then top off with a thick layer of lightly whipped heavy cream. Adapted from David Wondrich, author of Esquire Drinks.
Irish Apple
- 1 part Jameson® Irish Whiskey
- 1-1/2 parts Hiram Walker® Sour Apple Schnapps
- 5 parts ginger ale
- Serve over ice in tall glass, garnish with lemon wedge.
Green Monkey
- ¾ part Hiram Walker® Melon Liqueur
- 1-½ parts Malibu® Tropical Banana
- 1-½ parts sour mix
- 1-½ parts pineapple juice
- Shake all ingredients and serve on the rocks or straight up.
