Perrier-Jouėt® Reveals What Women Want

New Study By Leading Luxury Champagne Finds That Valentine's Day is the Perfect Day to Toast the One You Love

Feb. 2, 2009 — A recent study of U.S. adult women revealed that when it comes to Valentine's Day, nothing celebrates the one you love better than champagne.  An overwhelming 40 percent of women aged 21 and up in relationships admitted that not only does champagne make the special day more romantic, but it is also the most romantic drink to enjoy with that special someone.

The survey, conducted by Harris Interactive® on behalf of Perrier-Jouėt®, asked what type of drink women in relationships would like to share with their significant other on Valentine's Day. The number one choice was champagne with 31 percent of the vote!  This result overwhelmingly beat out rum, which received only 10 percent of the vote and beer and tequila, which both received 8 percent.

Not surprisingly, among these women, 16 percent revealed that they would like their significant other to give them a bottle of champagne on Valentine's Day, with 12 percent even going as far as to say that no Valentine's Day would be complete without a fantastic bottle of champagne.

"While flowers and candy remain popular among women, the consensus is that champagne seems to add an element of romance not easily found in other gifts," said Stephen Brauer, General Manager, Pernod Ricard USA Wines.  "These survey findings reaffirmed what we at Perrier-Jouėt have known all along: nothing celebrates the beauty and elegance of the special person in your life like a bottle of champagne. This survey was conducted online within the United States by Harris Interactive on behalf of Perrier-Jouėt between January 9, 2009 and January 13, 2009 among 1,140 adult women ages 21+ of whom 854 are in a relationship. This online survey is not based on a probability sample and therefore no estimate of theoretical sampling error can be calculated.
